How to Take Care of Oily Skin at Night
Oily skin is a common concern for everyone. Having excess oil on your face can lead to clogged pores, blemishes and acne. To help your skin look fresh during the day, you need to commit to an oil-busting nighttime skin routine. During the day, impurities and dirt can build up on the surface of your skin. This makes cleansing all the more crucial in your PM skincare routine.
With a mass amount of products on the market, we know it can be difficult to find the best routine for your skin. We’ve broken down the essential products and routines to help you care for your oily skin at night. Here at DW Aesthetics, we are highly trained and experienced in all aspects of skincare, and have a wealth of outstanding products.
Nighttime Skin Routine
1. Remove Any Make-up/ Deep CleanseYou should start by removing any make-up you’ve had on during the day. You want to do this as gently as possible to protect your skin. We recommend using a facial cleansing sponge to help you do this. Use the sponge with your choice of facial cleanser to remove makeup and impurities. For gentle exfoliation simply use the dampened sponge as part of your daily skincare regime.
We recommend using our deep cleansing gel as your nightly cleanser. With AHA & BHA, this is a deep cleansing (oil-free) formula that thoroughly removes excess oil, surface impurities and make-up. It helps to exfoliate the dead cells thanks to Alpha and Beta Hydroxy acids and natural enzymes. The deep cleansing gel is recommended for normal-to-oily, oily, and problem skin types.
2. Second Cleanse
When you have oily skin, you may often find that just one round of cleansing isn’t enough to clean your skin. We recommend going in with the deep cleansing gel again, without the sponge to make sure all the dirt and oil from the day have been removed from your pores.
3. Apply a TonerToner is an essential product for an oily skin nighttime routine as it refines your pores. We recommend our camphor clarifying astringent. This includes salicylic acid. Salicylic acid in skincare products helps improve your skin's overall appearance by gently pushing out dead skin cells, sebum, and other pore-clogging debris.
4. Apply a Face Mask
Face masks shouldn’t be considered as only part of a spa experience. To take your skincare routine to the next level, we recommend including a face mask one to two times per week. Clay masks are a great way to detox your skin and get your oil levels under control. Our anti-blemish and acne mask is great for this. This mask is an exceptional deep cleansing and purifying treatment recommended especially for oily and blemished skin. Its perfect combination of finely milled clays, pure essential oils, and ichthammol draws out impurities, minimizes pores and helps to calm irritated blemishes.
5. Moisturise
Even oily skin still needs moisture. A light, hydrating night cream or lotion, applied to your face and neck, should be the last step in your nightly skincare routine. Avoid rich, thick creams as they may clog pores. Gel-based moisturizers are often the better option. We recommend our smooth and clear serum. This concentrated serum delivers a potent combination of pore refining, exfoliating, skin-strengthening, calming and brightening ingredients to smooth the complexion, lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, control oiliness and breakouts while helping to even out the skin tone.
6. Apply Eye Cream
This step is optional, however, it will help to take your skincare routine to the next level. Dark circles around the eyes are a common skin concern. Using an eye cream or serum nightly will help this area to stay looking bright and fresh. We recommend our active fading serum. It is designed to gently balance uneven skin tone, reduce the appearance of blemishes from spots, age spots, freckles, sun-damaged skin and mild hyperpigmentation. Exfoliates damaged dead skin cells with kojic & lactic acid to reveal a brighter and more even-toned complexion. Should be used a minimum of 6-8 weeks for maximum results. Please note that this is not for skin lightening.
